"Abstraction allows man to see with his mind what he cannot see with his eyes...Abstract art enables the artist to perceive beyond the tangible, to extract the infinite out of the finite. It is the emancipation of the mind. It is an explosion into unknown areas"

Arshile Gorky

About me...

about

My name is W. Claude Décarie.

I am passionate about visual arts.

For a long time, as a hobby, I dabbled with watercolour and pastels.

I then moved away from watercolour and pastels to explore alcohol ink and acrylic paint, two mediums that I particularly enjoy.

I subsequently left behind figurative art to devote my time almost exclusively to abstract art. In this form of art, I discovered a freedom of expression more suitable to my artistic creation.

I am not creating a new way of painting. I simply give free rein to gestures and emotions that translate into forms and colours.

For a reason that eludes me, the format of most contemporary artworks is very large. In contrast, the majority of my artistic works consists of small formats, which make them more suitable to most homes.

Since the beginning, I have alway kept my artwork to myself. With time it began to pile up until one day, I decided to share my work with friends. Many liked what they saw and encouraged me to go one step further by going public. That suggestion suddenly brought to light a desire to create emotion in people that I had secretly harboured since the dawn of my retirement.

As a result I created this website.

My studio is located in Saint-Sauveur, province of Quebec. Many of my paintings can be found in private and corporate collections. I am also a member of the Association des Artistes Peintres de Ste. Adèle.

I hope you like my artwork and that it stirs in you the same emotions that I experienced when I created it..

"I understand abstract art as an attempt to feed imagination with a world built through the basic sensations of the eyes."
